NFDI4Immuno welcomes long-term funding for NFDI and sustainable organization of the consortia
On July 10, 2026, the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftkonferenz, GWK) decided to extend the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) beyond 2029 through 2038. With the new agreement between the Federal and the State level (Bund-Länder Vereinbarung), the NFDI gains a long-term perspective . Furthermore, it will evolve into a more coordinated structure that will deepen to support good research data management practices across Germany. A key element of the future structure is the introduction of scientific sections (“Fachbereiche”), which will further strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within the NFDI, and promote the development of shared services and standards. NFDI4Immuno introduces itself to the global AIRR-community
Experts from the NFDI4Immuno team joined the 8th Adaptive Immune Receptor Repertoire (AIRR)-Community Meeting at Yale University in June 8-11. Not only where the experts there to discuss science but they brought a booth to introduce NFDI4Immuno to the global AIRR community. NFDI4Immuno aims to be a FAIR data hub for AIRR-seq data while also providing services and tools for analyzing it. We are glad, that so many scientist came along and showed interest in our consortia. beyond that, we were learning about the needs and interest in the community for a data hub and it’s services. NFDI4Immuno was represented at the 19th Annual Interantional Biocuration Conference
NFDI4Immuno participated in the International Biocuration Conference in Cape Town, a specialist meeting that aligns closely with our mission in data standardisation, biocuration, and FAIR immunological data. Our representative delivered a talk on our current work, which prompted several questions during the session and led to in-depth follow-up conversations with participants afterwards. These interactions with experts from leading international institutes underscored the relevance of NFDI4Immuno’s activities and opened up promising perspectives for future collaborations and broader community engagement
A consistent image of the NFDIBioMed Interest Group
As part of our activites after the BioMed workshop, the members of the BioMed Interest Group – NFDI4Health, NFDI4Microbiota, NFDI4Bioimage, GHGA, and NFDI4Immuno – represent their offers in an unified way. This makes it easier for users to get an overview of the various resources and offers relating to biomedical data that we, as interest group, provide. More joint activities regarding FAIR data in biomedical research will follow!
Presence of NFDI4Immuno in the first half of 2026
Representatives of NFDI4Immuno will be present at several events in the first half of 2026. Our aim is to raise the profile of NFDI4Immuno, connect with people in the national and international FAIR Data community, and learn how we can improve NFDI4Immuno. NFDI4Immuno took part at the NFDI BioMed workshop in cologne
The NFDI BioMed in-person workshop, attended by the NFDI4Health, GHGA, NFDI4Microbiota, NFDI4BioImage, and NFDI4Immuno consortia, focused on the future of our services in the field of biomedical data and how we can align our outreach strategies. In an earlier strategy meeting, NFDI executives set common goals and future activities for the NFDI BioMed network. This was followed by a discussion on how we can combine our services and strengths to create the most user-friendly offerings for people working with biomedical data. We identified similarities and unique features of our consortia in terms of websites, metadata, training, help desks, and services.
NFDI4Immuno at the 19th International Congress of Immunology in Vienna
The 19th International Congress of Immunology (ICI) took place in Vienna, bringing together researchers from all over the world. NFDI4Immuno was delighted to contribute with a poster presentation. In addition to sharing our work, we had the opportunity to attend inspiring talks, engage in exciting discussions, and expand our network within the immunology community. These interactions also helped us raise further awareness for the NFDI4Immuno project and its goals.
NFDI4Immuno contributed at IVIS 2025.
NFDI4Immuno was introduced to the Veterinary Immunologist community this summer in Vienna, at the 14th International Veterinary Immunology Symposium (IVIS2025), an event that gathered experts in the field worldwide, highlighting the importance and impact of veterinary immunology data sharing in Science and human health. NFDI4Immuno’s yearly ALL-HANDS Meeting took place in Berlin.
The NFDI4Immuno consortium held its annual meeting in Berlin, bringing together members from across Germany to strengthen collaboration and strategic planning. Key goals included increasing productivity across task areas and working groups, defining a joint software concept, and identifying potential bottlenecks with corresponding solutions. In addition to the productive sessions, social dinners and informal exchanges supported team building and deepened connections among the geographically distributed members.
NFDI4Immuno participates at the NFDI BioMed Workshop in Heidelberg
In November 2024, over 50 experts from five NFDI consortia—GHGA, NFDI4BIOIMAGE, NFDI4Health, NFDI4Immuno, and NFDI4Microbiota—gathered in Heidelberg for the first NFDI BioMed workshop. The event focused on aligning key concepts in biomedical research data management and identifying practical areas for collaboration. Highlights included in-depth sessions on data models, infrastructure, regulations, and training, as well as a Barcamp format that produced nine actionable use cases. Several discussions have already led to active working groups within the initiative.
NFDI4Immuno is recommended for funding.
The Expert Group responded positively to the NFDI4Immuno proposal and recommended that the consortium be funded. We are happy and proud to see our hard work coming to fruition.
