NFDI4Immuno looks back on a successful interim defense

The NFDI4Immuno team successfully presented NFDI4Immuno to a panel of experts group at the reporting symposium in Bonn. As part of the scientific governance of NFDI, all consortia are required to report their progress and success stories regularly. Representatives of the NFDI4Immuno team presented our interim report including a first demo of our data hub and a front-end mock-up.

We are grateful for the expert group’s feedback and recommendation of our application for the next phase. We were delighted that the experts from across Germany supported our vision on how we can shape the immunological landscape in Germany. We will use the reviewers’ response to improve our data hub and thereby ensure the continued success of NFDI4Immuno. This feedback helps us grow and motivates us to drive NFDI4Immuno forward. We look forward to share more services soon.

NFDI4Immuno welcomes long-term funding for NFDI and sustainable organization of the consortia

On July 10, 2026, the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftkonferenz, GWK) decided to extend the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) beyond 2029 through 2038. With the new agreement between the Federal and the State level (Bund-Länder Vereinbarung), the NFDI gains a long-term perspective . Furthermore, it will evolve into a more coordinated structure that will deepen to support good research data management practices across Germany. A key element of the future structure is the introduction of scientific sections (“Fachbereiche”), which will further strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within the NFDI, and promote the development of shared services and standards.

NFDI4Immuno warmly welcomes the GWK decision. Robust research data infrastructures are an essential foundation for scientific excellence and medical progress. Long-term funding for the NFDI enables reliable planning and facilitates the sustainable consolidation of shared services, standards, and research data infrastructures across the life sciences, including the immunological community. NFDI4Immuno will continue to build an innovative Data Hub for sharing FAIR immunological data, while supporting the immunological community with data standards and tools for an open science community.

Together with our BioMed Interest Group partners NFDI4Health, NFDI4Microbiota, NFDI4BIOIMAGE and GHGA, our consortium has jointly issued a statement in support of establishing the scientific section ‘Biomedicine’ (Fachbereich Biomedizin). We envisage this section as a coordination hub for biomedical research data, promoting the exchange of best practices, developing shared services and standards, and strengthening ties with initiatives such as NAKO, NUM and genomDE – while remaining open to further partners within and beyond the NFDI. Together, we aim to enhance collaboration between biomedical infrastructures and jointly address the common challenges involved in the management and use of sensitive biomedical research data.

NFDI4Immuno introduces itself to the global AIRR-community

Experts from the NFDI4Immuno team joined the 8th Adaptive Immune Receptor Repertoire (AIRR)-Community Meeting at Yale University in June 8-11. Not only where the experts there to discuss science but they brought a booth to introduce NFDI4Immuno to the global AIRR community. NFDI4Immuno aims to be a FAIR data hub for AIRR-seq data while also providing services and tools for analyzing it. We are glad, that so many scientist came along and showed interest in our consortia. beyond that, we were learning about the needs and interest in the community for a data hub and it’s services. We will continue to work on this to improve AIRR science in a FAIR manner.
